Dot NAME Domain Names

Introduced in 2001, the Dot NAME generic top-level domain name extension is the sole TLD planned for personal sites only. These domains can consist of personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other labels people are popular by. Initially, solely 3rd-level registrations were permitted, so if you wanted to order john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and second-level registrations were also allowed. Already registered 3rd-level domains remained running.
