FTP is an abbreviation for File Transfer Protocol – a quite popular way to exchange website files between a PC and a web server. Using an FTP client program such as CuteFTP or FileZilla, you can connect to the server and view its content in one pane, while the files on your computer will be shown in another pane within the main program window. All you will need to do to send files or whole directories in either direction is to mark them and then to drag them from one pane to the other. FTP is preferred by plenty of users because you can create different FTP accounts and each of them can be restricted to connect to just one directory on the server, so a designer, for example, can complete their task without being able to see any other content in your web hosting account. In addition, the presence of different FTP accounts will also allow you to create multiple sites with web design tools such as Dreamweaver or FrontPage and to upload them to their specific folders on the server.

FTP Accounts in Shared Hosting

You will be able to create as many FTP accounts as you want with each of the Linux shared hosting that we offer, because we have chosen not to restrict this service. In this way, you can run numerous websites at the same time or give other individuals access to separate directories. Once a specific task has been carried out and you don’t want that person to be able to connect to your files anymore, you can change the password for the specific FTP account or you can just remove the account with several mouse clicks and quit worrying about someone using it once again. The Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with all hosting plans, will permit you to see the complete list of the active FTP accounts listed alphabetically. It takes just one mouse click to administer various options for any of them – to edit the password or the access path, to download an auto-configuration file, etc.

FTP Accounts in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you host your sites under a semi-dedicated server account, you’ll be able to create a different FTP account for any of them, as we have not put a restriction on this feature with any of our semi-dedicated server plans. You can do this through the FTP section of our easy-to-work-with Hepsia hosting Control Panel where you can also see the complete list of all the FTP accounts that you have set up, along with the folder that each one of them can access. If necessary, you’ll be able to update the password for a given account or to change its access path with several mouse clicks. You can also delete an account with no effort if you do not require it anymore – for instance, if you have hired a developer who is done with the Internet site and you do not want them to connect to your web files anymore. For your convenience, we have selected a number of instructional video clips, which will help you administer your FTP accounts without effort if you have never used a web hosting plan before.

FTP Accounts in VPS

None of the Linux VPS that we offer includes a restriction on the maximum number of FTP accounts that you can have at any moment, so you can create a separate account for each website hosted on your machine, regardless of whether it is under a domain or subdomain. Moreover, it doesn’t matter which hosting Control Panel you will choose when you join – DirectAdmin, cPanel or Hepsia, since an FTP server will be set up on your VPS at the time of the installation of any of them. In case you want different individuals to make a connection to one and the same directory with their own personal log-in details, for example, it will take a couple of clicks to create a different FTP account for each of them. Deleting an existing account or changing the folder that it can access is just as simple and you won’t have to deal with any problems, even if you don’t have prior experience in such matters.
