The NS, or Name Server records of a domain, indicate which servers handle the Domain Name System (DNS) records for it. Setting the name servers of a particular host company for your domain address is the easiest way to point it to their system and all its sub-records are going to be managed on their end. This includes A (the IP address of the server/website), MX (mail server), TXT (free text), SRV (services), CNAME (forwarding), etcetera, so, in case you would like to change some of these records, you're going to be able to do it using their system. Put simply, the NS records of a domain show the DNS servers that are authoritative for it, so when you attempt to open a web address, the DNS servers are contacted to obtain the DNS records of the domain name you are attempting to reach. This way the website that you're going to see will be retrieved from the correct location. The name servers typically have a prefix “ns” or “dns” and each domain name has at least 2 NS records. There's no functional difference between the two prefixes, so what kind a web hosting provider will use depends entirely on their preference.

NS Records in Shared Hosting

The outstanding Hepsia Control Panel, offered with with our shared hosting packages, will allow you to take care of the name servers of each domain name registered through us with only a couple of mouse clicks, so even when you have never had a hosting plan or a domain name before, you will not encounter any issues. The Domain Manager tool, which is a part of Hepsia, comes with a very user-friendly interface and it will enable you to edit the NS records of any domain address or even a number of domain addresses all at once. We provide you with the opportunity to create child name servers dns1.your-domain.com and dns2.your-domain.com for each and every domain name registered within the account just as easily and all you need for that is a couple of IP addresses - either ours, if you're going to use the child NS to forward the domain name to the account on our cloud platform, or the ones of the third-party company if you'll use the new records to point the domain to their system. Unlike other companies, we do not charge more for providing this additional DNS management service.

NS Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

You'll also be able to register child name servers under every one of your domains as part of the free DNS control services which we provide with each and every plan and have ns1.your-domain.com and ns2.your-domain.com. The latter can be used for every domain address you accommodate in the semi-dedicated account, so if you offer services to third-parties and host their sites, using this feature is going to give you much more credibility as a business.
